Abstract

Accessibility in historic public buildings represents an important technical challenge, especially due to the need to reconcile social inclusion with heritage preservation. In this context, this study aims to evaluate the accessibility conditions of the Uberaba Municipal Market, a listed building of historical and cultural relevance to the municipality. The research was developed based on current Brazilian legislation and the parameters established by ABNT NBR 9050, used as references for analyzing access, circulation, and permanence conditions within the site. The adopted methodology is characterized as a case study, involving a historical survey of the building, technical visits for on-site measurements, photographic records, and inspection of internal areas, restrooms, and external access routes. Based on the analysis carried out, the study seeks to identify architectural and urban barriers that hinder the full use of the space by people with disabilities or reduced mobility. From this diagnosis, technical adaptation proposals are presented to improve accessibility without compromising the architectural and historical characteristics of the property. It is concluded that the adoption of accessible solutions in historic heritage buildings is essential to ensure safety, autonomy, and equal use, promoting inclusion and expanding democratic access to public spaces.
