It seeks to discuss the procedures, instruments and modalities adopted, and how the evaluation processes are carried out for the internal training courses conducted by the federal universities of the northern region of Brazil, and to know the history of these institutions with regard to the history of creation, physical structure and human resources. For this, descriptive research of quantitative and qualitative nature was performed, through the analysis of the qualification plans available in the universities, searches in the official pages to identify the information about the history, bibliographic review of articles and publications relevant to this study, besides the study of current legislation. Most federal universities in the northern region have a systematized training plan. And of these, most evaluate the training actions in some way. It was found that there are still very few studies of federal higher education institutions in Brazil, especially in the northern region and information available on the pages of the institutions, which hindered further analysis in this regard. However, it was possible to list important elements that constitute the training and evaluation policy implemented in these institutions..
